It's hard to think about cold temperature weather when we are still in the 100s in Texas, but now is the time to prepare for a frosty winter.  Take a weekend and knock out this to do list. You will be glad you did!
  • Caulk Doors and Windows - this is a great way to prevent the cold air from coming in. Take a look around and plug any cracks. If your old caulk is pulling away, clean and replace it.
  • Check weather-stripping at doors - replace if necessary.
  • Clean the Gutters - After the leaves have fallen, take time to the clean out the gutters. Make sure there is no muck in there.
  • Tidy the Deck - sweep off leaves, dirt, etc. Repair any cracks in the concrete and tighten any screws on a wood deck.
  • Winterize your faucets - un-hook the hoses, drain water, store inside. Put covers on your faucet.
  • Fall is the perfect time to plant trees.  Trim your existing ones too.
  • Cut back perennials.
  • Remove dead plants.
  • Take a photo of your plant beds so next year you can remember what is coming back.
  • Make your planting plan and get ready to plant bulbs (in Texas we do this in November/December).
  • Pick your herbs and dry them for winter use.
  • Fertilize grass.
